Biography

Dr. Tonelli was valedictorian of his medical school class at the University of Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina. After graduation, he finished his training in Cardiology at Universidad Favaloro, Buenos Aires, Argentina before moving to the United States. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Michigan State University, Lansing, Michigan followed by Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr Tonelli joined the Cleveland Clinic Respiratory Institute in 2010.

He received the Young Investigator Award from the American College of Chest Physicians in 2008. He is a Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative (CTSC) KL2 scholar. He studies pulmonary and systemic endothelial (dys)-function and its relationship to prognosis and response to therapy in pulmonary arterial hypertension. He conducts transdisciplinary team-based research aimed at understanding and managing patients with pulmonary vascular diseases.
