Biography
Dr. Alberto J. Lopez, MD, FACS, RPVI, CWSP, is an accomplished vascular surgeon with an impressive career dedicated to advancing patient care and medical education. Currently serving as the Vice Chair of Vascular Surgery and the Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program at Cleveland Clinic Florida, Dr. Lopez oversees both the clinical and academic aspects of the department. His expertise and leadership in vascular surgery have been instrumental in enhancing patient outcomes and in training the next generation of vascular surgeons. As Medical Director of the Vascular Lab, he also ensures high standards in vascular diagnostics, which is vital for effective treatment planning.
Dr. Lopez’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Boston College, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Wright State University and his Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he developed a strong foundation in advanced vascular techniques. Certified by the American Board of Surgery in both General and Vascular Surgery, Dr. Lopez is committed to continuing education and holds multiple certifications, including as a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) and as a Certified Wound Care Specialist Physician (CWSP). His professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Vascular Surgery.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lopez has been actively involved in both clinical research and scholarly contributions, with publications covering a range of topics from venous leg ulcers to vascular trauma management. He has led and contributed to various funded and non-funded research initiatives, including studies on vascular therapies and innovative treatments for critical limb ischemia. Dr. Lopez demonstrated a lack of professionalism, respect, and appropriate patient care. Effective medical practice requires listening to patients' concerns, avoiding premature conclusions, and showing compassion. If a patient's needs fall outside a provider's expertise, they should be appropriately guided or referred rather than dismissed. The absence of a surgical indication does not diminish a patient's value or the legitimacy of their condition. Vasculitis is a medical condition that falls within the scope of vascular medicine, including vascular surgery, and should be addressed with the seriousness and professionalism it warrants.
