Biography
Arwa Younis, MD, is associate director of Translational Electrophysiology in the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Section of the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine within the Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Main Campus.
Specialty Interests: Catheter ablation, atrial fibrillation (AF), atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), left atrial appendage closure, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW), ventricular tachycardia (VT), premature ventricular complexes, pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD).
Experience and Outcomes: The Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Section offers a range of highly specialized approaches to diagnose and treat patients with heart rhythm problems (arrhythmia). The Section’s specialists annually perform nearly 6,500 procedures in the Electrophysiology Lab, including pacemaker and defibrillator implantations, ablations of various types of arrhythmias and cardioversions. Education: Dr. Younis holds a doctorate in medicine from the Philipps University of Marburg in Germany. He completed his internal medicine residency and Clinical Cardiology fellowship at the prestigious Sheba Medical Center in Israel, graduating with honor.
Dr. Younis began his subspecialty training as a research fellow in cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY, from which he finished with distinction. He then joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2021 and continued his training with a special combined clinical and research fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology with over 1000 electrophysiology procedures, including hundreds of complex procedures.

Professional Highlights
Dr. Younis has served as principal investigator for clinical studies to determine the efficacy and improve safety of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). He is also the primary author on many of the important studies on cardiac devices, especially defibrillators (MADIT ICD benefit score).
Dr. Younis has coauthored more than 100 research papers, abstracts, editorials, review papers and case reports published in leading medical journals. He has reviewer responsibilities with several prestigious journals, including Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, Heart Rhythm Journal and JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology and has coauthored more than a dozen chapters for electrophysiology textbooks. He is a frequent invited lecturer and presenter at medical meetings in the United States and internationally, speaking on all aspects of catheter ablation of cardiac rhythm disorders. Dr. Younis’ research played a significant role in the advancement of pulsed field ablation.
