Ben Alencherry, MD, is a staff physician specializing in the Cardiovascular Imaging Section of the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute and an associate program director for the cardiology fellowship program. Education: Dr. Alencherry earned his doctorate in medicine from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Washington, D.C., and a master’s in health professions education from Cleveland State University and Cleveland Clinic Education Institute. As an internal medicine resident at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Dr. Alencherry was elected chief medical resident in his final year of training. He received his specialty training at Cleveland Clinic with a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine followed by an advanced cardiac imaging fellowship, elected as chief fellow during both fellowships.
Dr. Alencherry was named to the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2024 following completion of his second fellowship.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Alencherry has participated in multiple research projects across a range of interests, from cardiovascular disease in Uganda to innovative approaches to medical education in Cleveland. He has coauthored more than a dozen papers, case reports and abstracts published in peer-reviewed medical journals, including several first-author publications, coauthored chapters in medical textbooks and presented his research at significant medical meetings.
About Dr. Alencherry: “I enjoy my field of multimodality imaging because it allows me to be involved in cutting-edge technology and use it every day in the diagnostic workup of all types of cardiac patients.
“As a cardiology fellowship associate program director, I am involved every day in the training and education of our cardiology fellows, which is a core focus of my staff position.”
Leisure Activities: In his leisure time Dr. Alencherry enjoys playing basketball and tennis and spending time with his family.

Dr Alenchery even called on Sunday to go over his findings after getting the results from my echocardiogram and discussing some other issues with his colleagues.

I will absolutely recommend Dr Alenchery and Dr Frazier (sp). Both were very interested in my care and background. Both provided recommendations on my health plan going forward. I received a call from Dr Alenchery on a Saturday morning providing me the test results and our plan moving forward. Amazing team!!!!!

Dr. Alencherry was so caring, smart & professional. I was kind of down emotionally when I arrived at Cleveland Clinic but after all the testing and speaking with Dr Alencherry I felt so much better and I'm so much more positive about my current issue and health. Felt I was taken good care of with a plan for the future after the open heart surgery. Doctor made sure I could complete my tests and leave my hotel on time. So that I can be on the road, he called me with the results from the tests.
