About Betty Haberkamp

Title

GPR Program Director

Biography

Dr Betty Haberkamp completed Dental school at Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry in 1984.  She went on to complete a general practice dental residency at Cleveland Metro General hospital in 1985.

She then settled in the Milwaukee area of Wisconsin, where she was affiliated with Marquette University School of Dentistry and the Medical College of Wisconsin.   There she focused her practice on the dental care of Special Needs patients.  She also maintained a private practice in Brookfield, WI.   IN 1997 she moved home to the Chicago area where she maintained a private practice and taught at the general practice residency program at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, again focusing on the dental care of Special Needs patients.   She became the Director of Special Patient Care there.  This affiliation allowed the ability to offer dental care under general anesthesia.

In 2011 Dr. Haberkamp joined the professional staff at Cleveland Clinic.  This presented a unique opportunity to expand her focus on dental services for the handicapped patient to include a spotlight on dental care of the head and neck radiation and the medically compromised patient.  Since the Cleveland Clinic is one of the few programs in the world that focus on the multidisciplinary management of these patients including their dental needs, this was an ideal location.  Recently she has added dental evaluation of the sleep apnea patient and mandibular advancement devices.

Dr Haberkamp has maintained an ongoing focus on teaching in both residency programs, and on education of the practicing dentist as well as dental assistants.   In 2014 she became Program Director of the dental General Practice Residency program.  She has been active in the Academy of General Dentistry where she has served as President of the Illinois AGD and Chicago component also.   She is has served on the PACE committee which approves continuing dental/medical education courses with the Academy.  In addition, she serves as a consultant to the Dental Assisting National Board.  In 2016 she was elected to the Greater Cleveland Dental Society Board of Trustees and served as a delegate to the Ohio Dental Association annual meeting.  She recently chaired the Women in Dentistry conference for the GCDS.
