Carlos Higuera-Rueda is currently a staff surgeon at Cleveland Clinic Florida, where he divides his time between leadership, research and patient care. He is the Director of the Levitetz Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director of Research of the Integrated Surgical Institute at Cleveland Clinic Florida. He currently holds the Amy and David Krohn Family Distinguish Chair in Orthopaedic Outcomes. Dr. Higuera completed his residency at Cleveland Clinic and a clinical fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Dr. Higuera specializes in hip and knee arthroplasty surgery. He uses alternative approaches for primary hip and knee arthoplasty to optimize recovery. He is interested in complex revision procedures including infections. His research interest is mainly in periprosthetic joint infections including diagnostic tools, and treatments patient optimization and overall outcomes after arthroplasty. He has written more than 400 peer review publications and book chapters related to his research. He is currently working on developing new technologies to diagnose and treat infections. He is the past president of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society. He is a member of the select Hip Society, Knee Society, International Hip Society and the International Knee Society.

This was a return visit following a knee replacement surgery by Dr. Higuera which was extremely successfu. I also consulted about a fairly serious problem with my other knee and asked his advise that the doctor answered very satisfactorily.

Dr. Higueta is one of the best doctors I''ve ever had. The appointment was a follow up for a hip replacement 5 years ago. He''s always been a good listener and caring person who truly cares about his patients. I appreciate the great job on the replacement too.
