About Carvell Nguyen

Biography

Carvell Tran Nguyen, MD, PhD is Director of the Cleveland Clinic West Region Submarket for Urology.  He is a board-certified urologic oncologist and academic surgeon specializing in the management of complex urologic malignancies, including those of the prostate, kidney, bladder, and testes. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Nguyen earned his MD and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California. He completed his residency in Urologic Surgery and fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute. His clinical expertise includes robotic and minimally invasive surgery for prostate and kidney cancer, specializing in advanced techniques such as single-port robotic surgery and focal therapy, 

An accomplished physician-scientist, Dr. Nguyen has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters focused on prostate cancer prediction models, clinical decision-making, and racial disparities in urologic care. He has served as principal investigator on federally and foundation-funded research and contributes to national clinical trial review efforts, including service with the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Nguyen is deeply committed to medical education and mentorship. He served as Site Director for the Case/UH Urology Residency Program at MetroHealth and has received multiple teaching awards, including the Martin I. Resnick Excellence in Residency Teaching Award. He was elected to the Academy of Scholar Educators at Case Western Reserve University in recognition of his contributions to academic medicine.

Dr. Nguyen is dedicated to delivering compassionate, cutting-edge oncologic care while advancing health equity and improving outcomes for patients with urologic cancers.
