Biography
Dr. Jansson-Knodell is a gastroenterologist and physician-scientist. Her research and clinic focus is celiac disease: an immune-mediated disease of the small intestine that develops in genetically susceptible people after eating gluten, a storage protein in wheat, barley, and rye.
Ever since she took an electron microscopy course in college, Dr. Jansson-Knodell has been fascinated by the small intestine. That is where her passion for gastroenterology started and her interest in caring for patients with gastrointestinal issues.
After medical school she completed her residency in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic and her fellowship in gastroenterology at Indiana University where she was Chief Fellow before she was recruited to start her career at Cleveland Clinic.
Seeing her patients improve when they remove gluten from their diet is the most rewarding part of her work. The collaborative spirit among dietitians and gastroenterologists at Cleveland Clinic enables her to provide the best possible care for her patients. She works in the Celiac Disease Program alongside Dr. Rubio-Tapia her longtime mentor, colleague, and friend. She is actively involved in research on celiac disease and its diagnosis. She holds a grant from the AGA (American Gastroenterological Association) that supports this important work. She also has a research award from the International Society for the Study of Celiac Disease. Dr. Jansson-Knodell is the recipient of the Rising Star research award in the GI department, a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, and winner of the Teacher of the Year award in 2023 selected by the GI fellows.
Despite the cloudy weather, she and her family are quite fond of Cleveland, Ohio and happy to call it home.

Dr J.K was very professional and if you still use the term bedside mannner She has one of the best I ever experienced. I really liked the teamwork with her PA who operated the laptop and would look up medical history data very efficiently as the questions came up during the office appointment. Over all, my appointment with your tram was great.
