Deirdre Mattina, MD, FACC, is a general cardiologist in the Section of Regional Cardiovascular Medicine in the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute and Medical Director of Cardio-Obstetrics at Hillcrest Hospital. She sees patients at Hillcrest Hospital and the Beachwood Family Health and Surgery Center.

Dr. Mattina is experienced in the clinical care of patients across the spectrum of heart disease and has a particular interest in treating young women with heart disease and in promoting women’s heart health. In 2016 she founded the Henry Ford Women’s Heart Center at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit to identify at-risk women in need of cardiovascular screening and disease management.

She is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, nuclear cardiology and echocardiography, and she is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Education: Dr. Mattina earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan School of Medicine, Ann Arbor, Mich. She completed an internal medicine residency at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City followed by a fellowship in cardiology at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit.

Before her 2020 appointment to the Cleveland Clinic medical staff, Dr. Mattina was a senior staff cardiologist at Henry Ford Hospital.

Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Mattina frequently is invited to address community groups, frequently speaking to women on personal empowerment through a heart-healthy lifestyle. In 2020 she received a $15,000 American College of Cardiology Chapter Grant to launch #shelookslikeacardiologist seminars. A collaborative effort with the Midwest Women in Cardiology Alliance, these seminars offer daylong mentoring sessions to selected 11th and 12th grade girls considering careers in medicine to expose them to cardiology as a potential specialty.

About Dr. Mattina: “My journey to medicine began as a professional dancer who was interested in combining biology and traditional medicine with nutrition and wellness practices for mind-body healing and disease prevention. I am privileged to work with grateful patients daily and help them make lifestyle changes that can improve their physical and mental wellbeing.”
