Biography
Douglas E. Joseph, DO, RVT, is Director of the Vascular Medicine Outpatient Department in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He is also medical director for the Vascular Medicine Vein Health Clinic and co-medical director of the multi-disciplinary lymphedema clinic. He is board-certified in vascular medicine and Internal Medicine and is a registered vascular technologist (RVT) and Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI).
Currently his clinical and research interests involve chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins. He performs endovenous ablation, microphlebectomies and sclerotherapy on the Main Campus as well as at multiple regional facilities.
Dr. Joseph earned a Doctorate of Osteopathy at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship and internal medicine residency at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio followed by a fellowship in vascular medicine at Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed to the medical staff in 2004.
Dr. Joseph has published a number of papers in medical journals on peripheral arterial disease, heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and deep vein thrombosis. He also has authored two textbook chapters and a monograph on heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.
Dr. Joseph also is a frequent presenter at medical symposia hosted at Cleveland Clinic and elsewhere, speaking on prevention of venous thromboembolism following surgery, peripheral artery disease, lower extremity wounds and management of primary venous disease.
His professional memberships include the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, American Venous Forum, Society for Vascular Medicine, American Medical Association and American College of Physicians, American Society of Internal Medicine and he is a Fellow of the American Osteopathic Association.
