Biography
Dr. Isaacson is a urologist and abdominal transplant surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic with specialized expertise that combines transplant surgery, urologic oncology and reconstructive surgery.
After earning his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, Dr. Isaacson completed his urology residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. In residency, Dr. Isaacson was inspired by the experiences of transplant patients and by how the skills needed to be a transplant surgeon and a urologist can help patients with both types of conditions: Transplant surgery involves operating on the body’s major blood vessels and in managing difficult pathology in the abdomen and pelvis: skills that are important in some of the most challenging cancer cases. Urologic training adds advanced robotic capabilities and knowledge of the urinary tract, which can be applied to improve care of kidney transplant patients.
These interests led him to complete a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, where he underwent training in kidney, liver and pancreas transplantation and in complex urologic cancers.
In practice, Dr. Isaacson specializes in solid organ transplantation, kidney and retroperitoneal cancers as well as a variety of general urologic conditions. He performs surgeries both open and using surgical robotics, allowing him to tailor surgical approaches to patients’ needs.
Dr. Isaacson believes in listening and trying to get to know patients and understand their values and priorities first, before coming up with a treatment plan to best accomplish their goals.
