Biography

Fernando F. (Enrique) Elli, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon, nationally recognized bariatric and foregut surgeon, and Division Chair of General Surgery for the Florida market. He specializes in bariatric, foregut and advanced minimally invasive surgery and is widely respected for his expertise in the treatment of obesity, revisional bariatric surgery, esophageal and gastric disorders, and robotic-assisted surgical techniques. With more than two decades of surgical experience, Dr. Elli has helped advance the care of patients with complex gastrointestinal and metabolic conditions through innovative, patient-centered treatment approaches.

As Division Chair, Dr. Elli provides strategic and clinical leadership across the Florida market, helping drive excellence in surgical quality, innovation, physician collaboration, research and patient outcomes. His commitment to multidisciplinary care and continuous improvement has strengthened access to advanced surgical services while supporting the growth and development of surgical programs across the region.

Dr. Elli's clinical interests include primary and revisional bariatric surgery, treatment of obesity-related diseases, surgical management of benign and malignant disorders of the esophagus and stomach, foregut surgery, adrenal surgery, abdominal wall hernia repair, gastroparesis, and robotic surgery. He is particularly experienced in treating patients with complex surgical histories and complications from previous bariatric procedures. 

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Elli is an accomplished researcher whose work focuses on advancing surgical treatments for obesity and foregut disease. His research has explored new minimally invasive and robotic techniques, bariatric and revisional bariatric procedures, upper gastrointestinal surgery, esophageal and gastric malignancies, advanced endoscopy, and surgical innovation. He has also contributed to the development and prototyping of novel surgical devices designed to improve patient outcomes and enhance the safety and effectiveness of surgical care. 

Dr. Elli earned his medical degree from Universidad del Salvador in Argentina and completed surgical training at the University of Buenos Aires before pursuing additional residency and fellowship training in General Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and has held numerous academic and leadership appointments throughout his career.

A prolific educator, mentor and speaker, Dr. Elli has trained surgeons nationally and internationally in advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques. His contributions to patient care, medical education and surgical research have earned multiple honors, including recognition from Obesity Week, Vitals and academic institutions for excellence in teaching and innovation.

Known for his compassionate and individualized approach, Dr. Elli believes that successful treatment requires a multidisciplinary strategy tailored to each patient's needs and goals.
