Biography
Dr. George Nichols is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed 5 years of orthopaedic surgery training at Yale University School of Medicine where he served as a Clinical Instructor. After more than 31 years in private practice he joined the Cleveland Clinic at Indian River in 2016.
He is Board Certified and recertified in orthopaedic surgery and a longstanding member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as the American Association of Hip and Kee surgeons. Over the course of his surgical career Dr. Nichols has performed more than 10,000 hip replacements and 10,000 knee replacements, reflecting a high level of expertise and dedication to patient care. He has instructed and performed surgery locally and internationally with an expertise on minimally invasive surgical techniques, as well as being a medical consultant for Zimmer and Orthodevelopment.
Two years ago, Dr. Nichols retired from surgical practice and now focuses exclusively on office based orthopaedic care. He brings over 42 years of clinical experience with particular expertise in the evaluation and management of non surgical orthopaedic conditions offering patients seasoned judgment, comprehensive care and a thoughtful conservative approach to treatment.
Dr. Nichols is married and the proud parent of three children with five grandchildren. Outside of medicine he has led a lifelong commitment to athletics and endurance sports. He is a former tennis teaching professional and was a ranked competitive player in the state of Florida.
An accomplished endurance athlete Dr. Nichols has completed 100 marathons, including one in every state and on every continent, highlighted by a marathon in the North Pole and 5 Boston marathons. He has finished seven Ironman triathlons including the prestigious Ironman World Championships in Kona Hawaii.
With this extensive athletic background Dr. Nichols brings a deep, personal understanding of the importance of physical health, resilience and longevity. He is passionate about helping patients regain mobility, maintain an active lifestyle an confidently return to the activities that give their lives meaning.

This appointment was to get the first of three injections in my knee. Dr. Nichols was prompt and he explained everything to me and proceeded to inject my knee. I never felt a thing and the appointment took all of five minutes. Very pleased with Dr. Nichols and his staff.

Dr. Nichols had to deliver some tough news. He did it with compassion and gave me time to process it. He answered a storm of questions, in as much detail as I required. He was kind, funny, smart, and I agreed with him on the treatment in closing. I'd never met him before but limped away with some solid hope. Dr. NichoIs is simply amazing!

I broke my hip and after rehab I went to see Dr. Nichols, he was very personal, caring, and understanding. He listened to me and answered all my questions. I am still under his care and if any of my friends were to ask for a bone doctor I would send them to him.
