Biography
Dr. Heather A. Vallier is a native of Wisconsin. She graduated with Highest Distinction from Northwestern University in 1989, receiving a BA in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Cell Biology. She attended Stanford University School of Medicine, where she received Dean’s Awards for Outstanding Teaching and Research. She completed her residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin, followed by a fellowship in 2000 in Orthopaedic Traumatology at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
Dr. Vallier is a Professor in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and has lectured nationally and internationally on her research and on fracture techniques on hundreds of occasions. She has published over 250 journal articles and 23 book chapters. She has also often been awarded for teaching and has received many research grants. She is involved in numerous multicenter trials evaluating injury treatment and outcomes.
She was the first female President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. Dr. Vallier is a Deputy Editor for the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. She also enjoys mentoring and advising students and residents and recently authored Foundations for Success in Orthopaedic Surgery. Throughout her career she has championed multidisciplinary care for trauma patients to address often unmet mental and social health issues.

Dr. Vallier was very kind and patient. She was engaged in my exam and discussion regarding plan of care. She took the time to explain everything and gave me plenty of time to answer questions and returned to the exam room to address further questions after cast was placed.
