Biography

Heba Wassif, MD, MPH, FACC, is a clinical cardiologist and Director of Inpatient Clinical Cardiology in the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. She is also faculty at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and participates in resident and fellow education.  Dr. Wassif sees patients at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.

Experience: Physicians in the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine offer the latest medications and interventional heart disease procedures to deliver better heart care outcomes for patients. They annually perform more than 100,000 diagnostic imaging studies, including echocardiograms, electrocardiograms and stress testing.

Dr. Wassif has more than 20 years’ experience in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients suffering from complex and chronic heart conditions and diseases. She interprets more than 1000 echocardiograms a year and applies her expertise in echocardiography to optimize her patients’ outcomes. She is board certified in general cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Education: Dr. Wassif earned her medical degree from Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt, and a master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, Md. She completed her internal medicine residency at University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics, Minneapolis, Minn., and Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where she was selected chief resident in her final year of training. 

Dr. Wassif received her specialty training as a general cardiology fellow at The Johns Hopkins Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute, Baltimore, Md., followed by a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.

Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2019, Dr. Wassif was on the staff of Baystate Health System of Massachusetts Medicine School, Worcester, Massachusetts.

Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Wassif is a dedicated researcher who has participated in numerous major clinical studies that have contributed to advancing innovation in heart disease. She currently is an investigator on two studies on cardiovascular outcomes. Dr. Wassif has coauthored papers on her research published in leading medical journals and is a frequent speaker, presenter and moderator at cardiology conferences, including American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association.

She also is passionate about advancing the future of cardiology through teaching interns and residents, and her students describe her as an inspiring educator, mentor and role model.

Leisure Activities: Outside of work, Dr. Wassif enjoys hiking, cross-country skiing, reading and traveling.
