About Jame Abraham

Biography

Jame Abraham, MD, FACP, is the Enterprise Chair of the Department of Hematology & Medical Oncology at Cleveland Clinic and a Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. From May 2021 to July 2022, he served as Interim Chair of the Taussig Cancer Institute and Deputy Director of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Abraham previously served as Director of the Cleveland Clinic Breast Oncology Program and Co-Director of the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program from 2013 to 2019. He has more than 20 years of experience caring for patients with complex breast cancer diagnoses, ranging from early-stage to metastatic disease, and has led numerous practice-changing clinical trials.

Dr. Abraham is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Breast Cancer Committee, which develops national guidelines for breast cancer management. He serves as Vice Chair of the Research Strategy Committee of NRG Oncology, one of the largest National Cancer Institute (NCI)–funded cooperative research groups in the world, and is a member of the NRG Breast Cancer Working Group. He has served as National Principal Investigator for multiple NSABP breast cancer clinical trials, including studies of novel HER2-targeted therapies. Most notably, he was the National Principal Investigator of DESTINY-Breast05 (NSABP B-60), the largest global adjuvant breast cancer trial of trastuzumab deruxtecan with results published in The New England Journal of Medicine in December 2025.

During his tenure at the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Abraham served as study chair for several early-phase clinical trials evaluating novel breast cancer therapies, including ixabepilone, which received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in 2007.

Dr. Abraham completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, followed by a medical oncology fellowship at the National Cancer Institute and a hematology fellowship at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health. He earned his medical degree from Calicut Medical College in Kerala, India.

He is Deputy Editor of The ASCO Post and the Journal of Oncology Practice and is the founding editor of the Bethesda Handbook of Oncology, one of the world’s best-selling oncology textbooks. Dr. Abraham has edited more than eight oncology textbooks and authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and presentations in leading journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Abraham’s primary focus and passion is taking care of patients with breast cancer.
