About Jamie Ku

Biography

Jamie A. Ku, MD, is a board-certified Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgeon in the Cleveland Clinic's Head and Neck Institute and a Staff Member in both the Section of Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology and the Section of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Her clinical expertise is in the surgical treatment of benign and malignant head and neck tumors and complex reconstruction of the head and neck. She cares for patients with benign head and neck tumors, cancer of the mouth, tongue, throat, voice box, face, and scalp, and disorders involving the salivary, thyroid, and parathyroid glands. Dr. Ku is skilled in the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as transoral robotic surgery and transoral laser microsurgery. She also specializes in complex reconstructive surgery, including microvascular free flaps, to restore form and function after cancer treatment.

Dr. Ku collaborates with the multidisciplinary team of specialists to deliver highest-quality care that is comprehensive and individualized. She also leads the patient-centered outcomes research program in the section of Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology, focusing on the areas of functional outcomes and quality of life outcomes of the head and neck patients. Dr. Ku has published a number of journal articles on topics ranging from head and neck tumor biology to minimally-invasive methods of detecting the human papilloma virus (HPV) in head and neck cancer patients. She has also authored numerous book chapters and serves as ad-hoc reviewer for multiple journals in the field of otolaryngology and oncology, including Head & Neck, Oral Oncology, and Scientific Reports.

After completing her undergraduate degree at Duke University, Dr. Ku earned her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2010, where she completed a one-year research fellowship in Head and Neck Tumor Molecular Signaling. She completed her post-graduate surgical training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University in 2015. She then pursued a two-year dual fellowship in advanced Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and is certified by the American Head and Neck Society and Advanced Training Council. 

Dr. Ku is a member of several professional medical organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Head & Neck Society. In her free time, Dr. Ku enjoys cooking, hiking, playing tennis, snowboarding, and going on adventures with her husband, Tommy, and her son.
