About Joseph Styron

Biography

Joe Styron, MD, PhD grew up in Northern Virginia but first moved to Cleveland for college at Case Western Reserve University. Over the course of 11 years at Case Western, Dr. Styron earned his bachelor’s degree, PhD, and MD. He earned honors with each of his degrees and was inducted into national honor societies from the undergraduate and medical school levels.  After he completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Styron pursued two fellowships to hone his subspecialty training. He completed a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Styron then completed a second fellowship in Congenital & Pediatric Hand Surgery at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia where he treated a myriad of genetic, traumatic, and acquired conditions in children. After completing his advanced training, Dr. Styron returned to the Cleveland Clinic as a staff surgeon.

Dr. Styron has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on various issues in orthopaedic surgery. He has also given presentations of his work at national and international meetings. He is very active in research, in particular, studying ways to maximize patient outcomes within orthopaedic surgery. His PhD is in Health Services Research & Policy and he has a keen interest in optimizing patient experiences and outcomes within the health system. Dr. Styron’s specialty interests include surgery of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder in individuals from infants to the elderly. He has specialized training in nerve and tendon transfers in infants and children unable to move their hands or arms.
