About Judith Scheman

Biography

Judith Scheman, PhD, is  Director of Behavioral Medicine for the Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute of the Cleveland Clinic. She received her BS in Psychology from the University of Washington, and MA and PhD degrees in Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Medicine from Kent State University. She completed specialty training during an internship at the Cleveland Veterans Administration Medical Center in behavioral medicine, risk factor reduction in cardiology, addictions and pain.

Dr. Scheman served for 21 years as the Director of Psychology, Education and Research in the Center for Neurological Restoration at the Cleveland Clinic. She is the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Interdisciplinary Pain Rehabilitation Special Interest Group in the American Pain Society (APS). In addition to being a member of APS, she is also a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain and the American Psychological Association. She is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine and co-founder of the Pain Psychology Special Interest group and member of several task forces.

She has presented at numerous national and international meetings on the topic of outcomes in interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation and behavioral medicine.
