Biography
Dr. Julie Lang graduated from medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999. She did a general surgery residency and a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (7 years of postgraduate training). She then completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at the UT-MD Anderson Cancer Center.
She served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Breast Surgical Oncology at the University of Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson, Arizona from 2007-2012. She then moved to Los Angeles to serve as Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of the Breast Cancer Research Program at the University of Southern California Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center from 2012-2020. She joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2021.
Dr. Lang is a physician-scientist with numerous publications, book chapters and invited presentations. She is known as a patient-centered, problem-solving, innovative, compassionate surgeon. She specializes in breast surgical oncology - surgery for breast cancer or other disorders of the breast. She is skilled with nipple sparing mastectomy, skin sparing mastectomy, lumpectomy, oncoplastic surgery, complex breast cancer surgery, and collaboration with Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She enjoys working with the multidisciplinary care team to achieve the best outcomes for each patient.
Dr. Lang is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and has returned to practice in her hometown as Co-Leader of the Breast Cancer Program.

I personally sought out Dr. Lang for treatment given her background and experience. She is excellent and I''m so pleased with her care management. She takes the time to cover all questions, is thorough and listens well. If wasn''t for her I would not have known I have a gene mutation.

Dr. Lang has a calming effect on me. She is direct but kind. I find her very easy to talk to. I don't worry about asking questions. I know she will answer them throughly, though I'm sure she's asked them every day. She explained tests, procedures and outcomes in detail.

I love that Dr. Lang has open body language and makes eye contact while speaking with me. This is an emotional time and I feel like I am the only one on her mind when she in the room with me. That makes it easier to process and cope.

Dr. Lang is the most knowledgeable, empathic, skilled and highly skilled breast surgeon I will ever encounter. Dr. Lang communicated surgical realities of my case in a clear and thoughtful manner. She listened to my concerns and arranged for an additional consult with her plastic surgeon colleague. I have full trust and confidence in her assessment and plan of treatment going forward. My stress about surgery was relieved during my visit with Dr. Lang. She is quite simply the best physician I have met in my career as a physician and now patient.
