Lakshmi Potakamuri, MD, is a staff cardiologist in the Section of Regional Cardiovascular Medicine in The Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Mercy Hospital.

Education: Dr. Potakamuri earned his degree in medicine from Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad, India, and his general surgery degree from Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, India. He completed his internal medicine residency at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, Mount Vernon, N.Y., where he was chief resident in his last year of training.
He received his specialty training as a cardiology fellow at Aultman Hospital/Northeast Ohio Medical University, Rootstown, Ohio. Dr. Potakamuri was selected as chief cardiology fellow for his final fellowship year and joined the Mercy Hospital staff at its completion.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Potakamuri has coauthored papers published online and in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has presented research posters and abstracts at national medical meetings, including the American College of Physicians and has been a co-presenter at the annual meeting of The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.
Dr. Potakamuri also is an active community volunteer, participating in community outreach programs to increase awareness of chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and stroke and the importance of lifestyle choices and health screenings for disease prevention.
About Dr. Potakamuri: “I very much enjoy practicing diagnostic, invasive and preventive cardiology. I find all aspects of my specialty rewarding, in particular being able to identify risk factors for heart disease early in a patient’s life and help them change the lifestyle behaviors that can positively impact their overall cardiovascular health.”
Leisure Activities: In his leisure time, Dr. Potakamuri enjoys spending time with his children and other family members and watching sports.
