Biography
Dr. Leon Zhong is a skilled family physician who graduated from Guangdong Medical University (formerly Guangdong Medical College) in 2003. He completed his surgery residency (Phase I) at one of the top hospitals in Guangzhou, China, before migrating to the United States to pursue his medical career. Dr. Zhong completed his Family Medicine residency training at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, Illinois, where he developed a passion for medical education.
In 2018, Dr. Zhong joined Cleveland Clinic as a family practitioner. He later transitioned to Cleveland Clinic’s Akron General Family Medicine Residency in October 2020 as a full-time faculty member. Dr. Zhong enjoys full-spectrum family medicine practice and teaching and has a keen interest in office-based procedures, Dermatology/Dermoscopy, Point-of-Care Ultrasound, and Women’s Health.
Dr. Zhong has enhanced the breadth of procedures performed at the residency program, providing patients with better access to care and one-on-one training for resident doctors. The residency procedure clinic covers a wide range of office-based procedures and surgeries. Dr. Zhong established a collaborative, office-based skin cancer surgical treatment program with surgical oncologist Dr. Visioni at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. Dr. Zhong also performs ultrasound-guided hip joint injections and has set up a program to teach residents how to place peripheral intravenous lines via ultrasound guidance.
Dr. Zhong is happily married to Jingjing, and they have two children. They enjoy fishing, cooking, bike riding, and traveling. Dr. Zhong is also an avid ping pong, tennis, and piano player.
