Biography
Dr. Sehgal is a nationally recognized Geriatric Medicine clinician-educator, developer of innovative educational programming, and leader of interprofessional teams. Here at Cleveland Clinic Florida (CCF), she directs the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program.
Born and raised in Alabama, Dr. Sehgal attended college and medical school at the University of South Alabama. She completed her residency at Tallahassee Memorial’s Family Medicine Residency Program, her Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, and Faculty Development Fellowship at UNC- Chapel Hill.
Prior to coming to CCF, Dr. Sehgal was an Associate Professor of Geriatric Medicine at Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine where she directed the Geriatrics and Healthy Aging Curriculum and the Geriatrics and Palliative Care Clerkship. She has also served on the faculty of the University of Kansas School of Medicine and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Dr. Sehgal currently serves as the Section Editor of the Education and Training Section of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and is the past Chair of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) Teachers’ Section. In 2020, Dr. Sehgal was honored by the AGS as Clinician Educator of the Year. She has been named a “Top Doc” in her field for many years.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Sehgal has been a principal and co-investigator on multiple grant funded projects totaling over 5 million dollars. In 2010 - 2015, she was awarded a prestigious Geriatric Academic Career Award from the US Bureau of Health Professions. Dr. Sehgal’s scholarly interests include designing, implementing, and evaluating novel Geriatrics and interprofessional education focused curriculum, understanding adult learning styles and how to accommodate teaching to their unique needs, and use of innovative educational teaching platforms. Dr. Sehgal is a champion of providing person centered care ensuring the best quality of life for her older adult patients while maintaining their safety and independence. She believes it is her privilege to work with the vibrant older adult community.

I came in for a routine follow up and my heartrate was measured at 35bpm. With due concern Dr Sehgal emphatically recommended I immediately go to the Emergency room. I was admitted and had a pacemaker implanted the next day. Dr Sehgal saved my life.
