Biography

I am the Director of the Blood and Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapies Program in the Hematology/Oncology Department at Taussig Cancer Institute. I went to Medical School at the State University of Londrina, in Brazil, completed my post graduate training in Internal Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami in Miami, in Hematology/Oncology at University of Utah in Salt Lake City and in blood and marrow transplantation at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in Milwaukee.  I joined MCW and the blood and marrow transplant program, where I spent 20 years in my career with a blend of clinical transplant care and clinical research with the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR).

Professional Highlights

I dedicated my professional career to the care and research in transplantation and cellular therapies. In the CIBMTR, I worked as Scientific Director and had the opportunity to work with many groups in the US, Europe and beyond on transplant research. My work spanned from retrospective analysis to randomized clinical trials as part of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN), a network funded by the National Institutes of Health to conduct multi-center clinical trials in transplantation. I also worked on the development of the largest database of CAR T cell recipients to understand patterns of care and outcomes. I am board certified in hematology and member of the American Society of Hematology and American Society of Transplant and Cellular Therapy.
