Biography

Marijan Koprivanac, MD, is a staff surgeon in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He is at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.

Specialty Interests: Adult cardiac surgery; aortic valve and bicuspid valve repair; surgery for thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection, including endovascular approach; complex aorta surgery and cardiac reoperations; David's reimplantation procedure; cardiac surgery for Marfan’s and other connective tissue disorders; minimally invasive heart surgery; cardiac tumors; endocarditis

Experience: Cleveland Clinic cardiac surgeons perform a total of more than 4,500 heart surgeries annually, with each surgeon completing 300 to 400 cases. During his training, Dr. Koprivanac performed more than 1,000 cardiothoracic surgeries, including heart valve surgery, reoperations and complex aorta operations.

Education: Dr. Koprivanac holds a doctorate in medicine from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, Zagreb, Croatia, and a master’s in clinical research from Case Western Reserve University. He was a research fellow in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery while earning his master’s and entered a six-year surgical residency at Cleveland Clinic on completion of his degree. Following his residency, Dr. Koprivanac completed his training with a two-year cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. 

He returned to Cleveland Clinic as an aortic clinical associate in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 2021 and was named a full member of the surgical staff in 2022.

    Good visit all round. All courteous. All Drs. Informative and supportive. I have been told by 4 other Doctors here in SE Michigan I was fortunate to survive the proceedures I needed to stay functionally alive.
