Biography
Michael J. Star, M.D. is a member of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute at Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Star graduated from the six-year Medical Program at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his residency at the State University of New York Kings County/Downstate in New York City. He furthered his training with fellowships in total joint replacement and spinal disorders at the Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California.
Dr. Star joined Cleveland Clinic in 2016, relocating from the San Francisco Bay area, where he practiced operative orthopaedic surgery for 25 years. While there, he was a long standing chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He was also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.
Since joining the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Star has worked at the Main Campus and Euclid Hospital. He practices general orthopaedic surgery, also working within the Arthritis Center at the Main Campus. Dr. Star practices general orthopedic surgery, his main interests include arthritis and complex orthopaedic cases.
He is Assistant Clinical Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He is actively involved in teaching residents and fellows. Dr. Star also serves as the Institute Experience Officer for the Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute.
Dr. Star is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of many national and regional Orthopaedic Societies and has published scientific papers in various orthopedic journals.

Dr. Star was extremely helpful in identifying the sources of my hip pain and in suggesting treatment options. He also made useful suggestions regarding physical therapy and initiating anti-inflammatory therapy as part of the visit. He is a superb doctor and very patient-oriented. The support staff were also very helpful.
