Biography
Michael P. Steinmetz, MD, is Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Cleveland Clinic. He is Professor and Chairman of Neurological Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. His areas of expertise and clinical and research interests include complex spine surgery, minimally invasive surgery, spine trauma and spinal cord injury.

Professional Highlights
He has published greater than 145 articles in leading medical journals, is co-author of the text, Anatomical Basis of Neurologic Disease (2009), with a 2nd Edition currently under revision, and is co-editor of Benzel’s Spine Surgery. He has also served as editor for three additional textbooks, sits on a number of editorial boards, and is a reviewer for several neurosurgery journals, as well as Section Editor for World Neurosurgery, a member of the editorial board for Journal of Neurosurgery-Spine and Deputy editor of The Spine Journal. He has contributed more than 60 Chapters to the body of surgical spine care literature, with several more in progress.
Dr. Steinmetz is actively involved in the various professional societies of neurosurgery and spine surgery. Serving in multiple roles in the Congress of Neurological Surgeons since his early years of training, he is now a member of the CNS Nominating Committee, and Education Committee. A member of the Executive Committee and Scientific Planning Committee of the CNS/American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) Joint Section on Diseases of the Spine & Peripheral Nerves since 2007, he is also Chairman of their Exhibits Committee. He s a member of the Minimally Invasive, CME, Governance, Advocacy and the PAC committees for the North American Spine Society.

Both visits I have had with Dr Steinmetz have been excellent. He has an excellent way to answer questions and thoroughly explain every topic we discussed. I never felt rushed during the appointment, even though I know he has a very busy schedule.

During the visit I spoke only to Dr. Steinmetz. He answered all my question and together we came up with a strategy to address my symptoms.
