Biography
Dr. Miguel Guelfand, MD, FACS, is the Section Head of Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital and a Full Professor of Surgery at the Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He earned his MD and completed a Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at the Universidad de Chile, followed by advanced training in Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and in Laparoscopic Surgery at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Adelaide, Australia.
Internationally recognized as a pioneer in minimally invasive neonatal and pediatric surgery, Dr. Guelfand has led major academic and clinical programs in both Chile and the United States. He previously served as Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Clínica las Condes and Clínica MEDS in Santiago, Chile.
In recognition of his world-renowned expertise, Dr. Guelfand was granted a Conceded Eminence Medical License in the United States—an honor reserved for physicians with exceptional and internationally acknowledged contributions to their field.
He is a past President of the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group (IPEG) (2021–2022), and currently serves on the editorial boards of three leading surgical journals:

Dr. Guelfand is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the Chilean Pediatric Surgical Association, and the International Pediatric Live Surgery Group (Counselor).
