Professional Highlights
Miguel Regueiro, M.D., is currently Chief of the Digestive Disease Institute (DDI) at Cleveland Clinic. He holds the inaugural Melody and Steve Golding Chair for Digestive Diseases. Prior to his role as Chief of DDI, he was the Chair of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
Dr. Regueiro earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree at Drexel (Hahnemann) University. He completed his internal medicine internship, residency, and clinical and research fellowship training in gastroenterology at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Hospital.
Dr. Regueiro was Professor of Medicine and Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine from 2000 to 2018. There, he served as the IBD Clinical Medical Director, Senior Medical Lead of Specialty Medical Homes, was Professor with Tenure, and in 2018 was honored as the UPMC Endowed Chair for Patient Centered Care in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.
Awards
Dr. Regueiro has received several honors, including the inaugural Melody and Steve Golding Chair for Digestive Diseases and an endowed chair in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Cleveland Clinic.
He received the Endowed Chair of Patient Centered Care at UPMC, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the Joan Kormblum Memorial Prize for Excellence in Internal Medicine, the Clinical Investigator Training Award from Harvard/MIT Health Sciences, the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation of America Physician of the Year, the National Research Excellence in GI Disease Award, Best Doctors in America, Top Doctor in Pittsburgh, Top Doctor in Cleveland and is an IBD section author for UpToDate. He has also received numerous fellowship teaching awards, and American Gastroenterology Association, American College of Gastroenterology and American College of Physician Fellowships. He serves as the Co-Chair for the annual Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Disease course and inaugural Editor-in-Chief for the innovative Crohn’s and Colitis 360 (digital) journal, 2017 to 2025.

Dr Reguerio is a truly passionate and caring provider. He is always prepared for our visits, communicates with my surgeon regularly and provides me time and space to discuss my questions and concerns. He''s prompt in getting back to me and is always kind and considerate. His team is also amazing! Joan and Kelley are always great with communication.

Dr Regueiro had read through my all of files and test reports prior to the appointment and was very good at explaining what he saw. He also was wonderful at listening to my concerns and took into consideration all of the symptoms that I'd been having and offered treatment plans for both Crohn's disease and possible allergies that may be triggering the inflammation
