Biography
Mohamed Khayata, MD, MPH, is a staff cardiologist in the Section of Regional Cardiovascular Medicine of The Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Strongsville Family Health and Surgery Center.
Specialty Interests: Coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy and heart failure, valvular heart disease, atrial flutter and fibrillation, preventive cardiology and risk stratification
Experience: Dr. Khayata is experienced in the diagnosis and management of all forms of cardiovascular disease and in performing transesophageal echocardiograms (TEEs), electrocardioversion and left and right heart catheterizations. He also is skilled in the interpretation of electrocardiograms; cardiac computed tomography scans; TEE and transthoracic echocardiograms; and exercise, pharmacological and myocardial perfusion (nuclear) stress tests.
Dr. Khayata is board certified in internal medicine, cardiac computed tomography, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology.

Education: Dr. Khayata earned his Doctorate of Medicine from University of Aleppo Faculty of Medicine, Aleppo, Syria, graduating in the top five percent of his class. He came to the United States in 2012 as a postdoctoral research fellow at Emory Clinical Cardiovascular Research Institute, Atlanta.
Dr. Khayata served his internal medicine residency at Akron General Hospital, followed by a heart failure fellowship at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He took a three-year hiatus from his training to earn a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, Md., and then went on to complete his specialty training as a cardiovascular disease fellow at University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, Tampa, Fla.
Dr. Khayata joined the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2023.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Khayata has coauthored more than two-dozen clinical research papers and more than 50 abstracts published in leading peer-reviewed journals, as well as a chapter on atrial fibrillation in Elsevier’s Cardiac Electrophysiology Clinics, a guide to the management of patients with heart failure.
Dr. Khayata has presented more than 50 abstracts and made numerous poster and oral presentations at national and international medical meetings.
About Dr. Khayata: “I enjoy cardiovascular medicine because I find it rewarding to help patients. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of mortality the United States, but we can offer patients many options to prevent disease progression and improve their quality of life and survival. My greatest strength as a cardiologist is my ability to provide information to patients about their heart health status using non-invasive tests and technologies.”
