Biography
Nicholas Scarcella, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon in the Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Scarcella specializes in hip and knee surgery. Specifically around the knee, he performs partial and total knee replacement as well as complex and revision arthroplasty. Similarly, he performs both anterior-based hip replacement surgery and posterior, as well as complex and revision hip arthroplasty. He also uses robotic-assisted techniques for both hip and knee surgery.
Dr. Scarcella is a Northeast Ohio native, having grown up in Strongsville and graduated from Padua High School. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the Dayton C Miller Honor’s Society for Baldwin Wallace University and went on to graduate medical school from Case Western Reserve University.
He completed residency locally at the Cleveland Clinic, where he was selected for the AOA C. McCollister Evarts Resident Leadership Forum as a resident. In addition, he was voted Chief Resident of the Year for 2021-2022. He also participated in multiple research projects in residency, completing several publications. He then went on to do his fellowship in adult reconstruction/complex total joints at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Scarcella continues to be active academically, contributing to the residency education and participating in ongoing research efforts. He is an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) as well as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). Dr. Scarcella also serves as the Education Director for the Cleveland Clinic Adult Reconstruction Fellowship.
He is excited to be serving his hometown community. He will be seeing patients and operating both at Medina Hospital and at Main Campus.

I have recommended Dr Scarcella to many friends. At this appt, I needed more X-rays done and Dr Scarcella went with me and looked at films as soon as they were done. I was totally pleased with my appointment with Dr. Scarcella. He answered my questions, provided me with my post surgery progress report, and addressed and treated an ongoing issue I had with an allergic/severe itchy rash-onset that occurred with the surgery. Dr Scarcella is the definition of what a Dr/ Surgeon should be. He took the time to explain and showed me what he exactly wants me to do to take to help my knee.
