Olalekan Olanipekun, MD, MPH, is a staff cardiologist in the Section of Regional Cardiovascular Medicine of The Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital.

Education: Dr. Olanipekun earned his medical degree from the Oba Okunade Sijuade College of Health Sciences, Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, Nigeria.
After completing his medical education, Dr. Olanipekun spent two years with the Millennium Villages Project, a pilot project of the United Nations Development Programme, the Earth Institute at Columbia University and Millennium Promise designed to demonstrate the efficacy of a consolidated approach to addressing health, disease, poverty and gender inequality problems in rural Africa. He worked in 14 villages across 10 sub-Saharan African countries, first as the project medical officer and advancing to lead the project health department.
Dr. Olanipekun relocated to the United States in 2013 to earn a master’s degree in public health from the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth, Texas. He subsequently completed his internal medicine residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago, followed by a fellowship in cardiology at Marshall University School of Medicine, Huntington, West Va. He served as chief fellow in his final year of training, overseeing the academic and research aspects of the fellowship.
Dr. Olanipekun was named to the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2024 on completion of his fellowship.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Olanipekun has been involved in clinical and basic research, beginning when he was a student at University of North Texas Health Science Center. He has coauthored papers and abstracts published in print and online medical journals and has presented at regional and national meetings and conferences.

Excellent experience! Dr not only listened to me, he let me know he understood my concerns and he was willing to take a team approach to my treatment and Rx. He impressed me as being a very caring, compassionate doctor. He took the time to show me pictures of my heart and did a thorough review of all aspects of my cardio reports and status.
