Biography
Dr. Paolo Caimi is a Professor of Medicine and hematologic oncologist at Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute, where he serves as Associate BMT Director for Cellular Therapy. His clinical focus spans lymphoma, cellular immunotherapy, and stem cell transplantation — fields that sit at the remarkable intersection of molecular biology, immunology, and the deeply human work of caring for patients facing serious illness.
Dr. Caimi completed his medical training at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and went on to residency and chief residency at Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, before joining Case Western Reserve University for his fellowship in hematology and oncology. He is also a graduate of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve, bringing a breadth of perspective to both clinical and research leadership.
What drew Dr. Caimi to oncology was precisely this duality: the science is extraordinary — targeted therapies, engineered immune cells, treatments with a clear molecular and immunologic rationale — but so is the responsibility to the person receiving them. He completed medical school at the moment targeted agents were becoming a reality, and has spent his career not just delivering those treatments, but contributing to their development through the design and conduct of clinical trials.

He recognizes that a cancer diagnosis demands clarity and urgency in equal measure, and takes care to ensure that patients and their families fully understand the path ahead — including its complexities and uncertainties — so they can be active participants in their own care.
Dr. Caimi views ongoing clinical research as a direct obligation to his patients, and remains committed to expanding the evidence base that will define the next generation of treatments in hematologic malignancies.
