Biography
Pasquale Santangeli, MD, PhD, is associate section head and director of the ventricular tachycardia (VT) program in the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Section of the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Main Campus.

Experience: The Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Section offers a range of highly specialized approaches to diagnose and treat patients with heart rhythm problems (arrhythmia). The Section’s specialists annually perform nearly 6,000 procedures in the Electrophysiology Lab, including pacemaker and defibrillator implantations, ablations of various types of arrhythmias and cardioversions.

Education: Dr. Santangeli holds a doctorate in medicine from Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome, Italy, and a doctorate in medical and epidemiological sciences from the University of Foggia, Foggia, Italy. After completing his studies, he remained at Catholic University for his cardiovascular diseases fellowship.
Dr. Santangeli began his subspecialty training as a research fellow in cardiac electrophysiology at Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute, St. David’s Medical Center, Austin, Texas. He continued his training with two fellowships in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, first at Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, Calif., and finishing at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2022, Dr. Santangeli was a staff electrophysiologist, associate professor of medicine, director of the Catheter Ablation Research Program, co-director of the Penn Ventricular Tachycardia Center of Excellence and director of EP Innovation and Clinical Research at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Santangeli has served as principal investigator for clinical studies to determine the efficacy and improve safety of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT).
Dr. Santangeli has coauthored more than 500 research papers, abstracts, editorials, review papers and case reports published in leading medical journals. He has editorial responsibilities with a number of prestigious journals, including Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, Heart Rhythm Journal and JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology and also has coauthored more than a dozen chapters for electrophysiology textbooks. He is a frequent invited lecturer and presenter at medical meetings in the United States and internationally, speaking on all aspects of catheter ablation of cardiac rhythm disorders.
An innovator in his field, Dr. Santangeli has developed several new techniques and technologies for treating AF and VT, typically in patients with complicated arrhythmias or challenging anatomy.
