Biography
R. Douglas Orr, MD, is a Staff physician in the Center for Spine Health and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, located on the Main Campus of Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed in 2003. Dr. Orr's practice interests include adult spinal surgery, including minimally invasive surgery and deformity surgery. In addition, his research interests include outcomes in spinal surgery, spinal biomechanics and biomaterials.
Dr. Orr joins Cleveland Clinic from Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation, Hamilton General Division in Ontario where he was a staff member for the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Orr also served as the assistant clinical professor of surgery at McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario) and was previously the site chief of orthopaedics at the Hamilton General Site Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation.
Dr. Orr has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Silver Hip Award for Best Teacher awarded by the residents of McMaster University Orthopaedic Program and the Robin Sullivan Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Research for best resident research presentation at the University of Toronto Orthopaedic Research Day. He has authored numerous publications and presentations for medical journals and conferences across the country and in Canada.

Dr. Orr IS THE BEST! I was there to see him for a 6 year post op check. I have been NON PAIN since I had the surgery back in 2019. Mind you .... There was 1 week downtown after surgery and then 1 week at CCF Avon Rehab (which also was an awesome experience there too!). But .. I was playing golf 6 months post surgery and pain free after healing from surgery!

I heard this doctor is one of the absolute best, and I believe that, but to have the kind of bedside manner he has is unbelievable!!! He is FANTASTIC and makes you feel very at ease for the type of surgery you're going to have. I think Dr Orr is a wonderful communicator!!! I think he's AWESOME!

Dr Orr did not give any protocol, direction, advice or exercise program on what to do about and avoid the pain I was having. I did find online a rehabilitation protocol to follow which I thot he could have provided.

I had never met Dr. Orr before. He was nice and asked many questions, some of which I couldn't answer but I am ready for my follow up appointment. His fellow, Dr Emily, was very thorough. I felt they both understood my condition and have been praying they can help.

Dr Orr and his assistant, Emily, using the MRI and the Xray of my spine, fully explained the issues in my spine. They showed the area causing my sciatic pain. Dr Orr explained in detail what procedure he would use in surgery to correct the problem. I left feeling very confident in Dr Orr.

I have had six spine surgeries preformed by Dr Orr. Dr Orr is incredible not only as a surgeron but an Hunan Being. I was lucky to have him as my surgery. Just wished my lower lumbar surgeries could have been more successful but never say never. I am still very hopefully I thiank God for Dr Orr and Cleveland Clinic

Theresa Sheldon and Dr. Orr are both easy to talk to, listen, and don't make me feel like any questions I have are stupid. Good sense of humor and very polite.
