Biography
Dr. Rachel Downes is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous. She cares for patients with conditions including retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disorders, and other complex retinal diseases.
Dr. Downes completed her ophthalmology residency at Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, where she served as Chief Resident, followed by fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Cole Eye Institute. She earned her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Biology.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Downes has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has received multiple honors for her clinical, academic, and research achievements. She is committed to providing compassionate, personalized care and utilizing the latest advances in retinal medicine and surgery to help patients preserve and restore vision.
