Robert Koeth, MD, PhD, is a staff physician in the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Section of The Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Main Campus.

Experience: Dr. Koeth is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of heart rhythm disorders. He has performed more than 1,000 cardiac electrophysiology procedures, including ablations and device implantations.

 

Dr. Koeth is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and cardiac electrophysiology.

Education: Dr. Koeth earned his doctorate of medicine from Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and a PhD from the medical scientist training program of CWRU. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and cardiovascular electrophysiology at Cleveland Clinic.

 

Dr. Koeth was named to the Cleveland Clinic staff in 2023 on completion of his second fellowship.

 

Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Koeth is an avid researcher, focusing primarily on metabolic mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of heart rhythm disorders. He currently is Principal Investigator on a new five-year study of genes, nutrition and atrial fibrillation, part of a larger study based at Cleveland Clinic and funded by the National Institute of Heart, Lung and Blood.

 

In 2013 Dr. Koeth was part of the Cleveland Clinic research team that demonstrated a link between gut flora and heart disease risk, earning a spot on the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s annual list of the top 10 major advances in cardiovascular and stroke science. Principal Investigator on the project was Stanley Hazen, MD, PhD, section head of Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation and chair of the Department of Cellular & Molecular Medicine.

 

The team published their results in the journal Nature Medicine. Dr. Koeth has coauthored additional scientific papers published in Nature, Circulation, New England Journal of Medicine and other top-tier, peer-reviewed medical journals. He also has presented his research at national medical meetings, including the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions and the Heart Rhythm Society annual meeting.

    It was a return after one year from the first visit. The Echo performed 9 months ago showed aorta dilated (main reason to return). The doctor was releasing me without even mentioned it. I had to explain my concern and then he started reading the results of first Echo
