Biography
Roop K Kaw MD, is a Professor of Medicine with the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and holds joint appointments with the Departments of Hospital Medicine and Outcomes Research (Anesthesiology Institute). He is a founding member and served on the Board of the Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine and currently co-chairs it’s research committee. He is also a member of Outcomes Research consortium, anesthesia’s largest international academic research organization. Dr. Kaw received his medical degree from the University of Kashmir, India in 1990 and is board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Kaw's current clinical and research interests focus on novel predictors of cardiopulmonary risk in patients undergoing Cardiac and Non-cardiac surgery. His research interests include perioperative aspects of sleep apnea, respiratory failure, pulmonary hypertension, diastolic heart failure and postoperative atrial fibrillation. He serves on several national committees and has been active in development of national guidelines in the area of perioperative management of Obstructive sleep apnea and treatment guidelines for Obesity hypoventilation syndrome. Dr. Kaw’s research has produced more than 100 scientific papers and book chapters. He has published in major scientific journals including American Journal of Respiratory and Critical care, Chest, American Journal of Cardiology, Anesthesia and Analgesia, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He has presented more than 50 scientific abstracts nationally and internationally and has participated in and conducted expert panels for American College of Chest Physicians, Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine, International Anesthesia Research Society and American Thoracic Society.
