About Saar Anis

Biography

Saar Anis, MD, is a Movement Disorders Neurologist in the Center for Neurological Restoration at Cleveland Clinic. He cares for patients with Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders, including atypical parkinsonism, tremor, tics, dystonia, gait disturbance, ataxia, myoclonus, and chorea.

His clinical practice combines individualized medical management, botulinum toxin injections for neurological conditions, and deep brain stimulation programming, including experience with adaptive DBS programming approaches, for patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and related disorders. He also serves as national faculty teaching ultrasound-guided injection techniques to other physicians. His focus is helping patients manage the symptoms that most affect daily function, independence, mobility, and communication.

His approach to care follows a simple principle: listen carefully, build trust, and empower patients. He partners with patients and families through education and shared decision-making to create treatment plans that are evidence-based, realistic, and aligned with each person’s goals and quality of life.

Dr. Anis has a particular clinical and research interest in the non-motor features of Parkinson’s disease, including sleep disturbance, cognitive change, mood, autonomic symptoms, urinary symptoms, and fall risk. As principal investigator on funded clinical research projects, he leads research on fall prediction, deep brain stimulation outcomes and genetics, biomarkers of disease progression, including alpha-synuclein skin-biopsy testing, and new care models for movement disorders. His work aims to translate clinical observations into practical tools that improve diagnosis, treatment selection, patient safety, and quality of life.

Dr. Anis earned his medical degree, magna cum laude, from Tel Aviv University and completed neurology residency and movement disorders fellowship training in Israel before pursuing advanced movement disorders training at Cleveland Clinic. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, serves as a journal peer reviewer, and is a member of several International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society study groups. He is actively involved in research, education, and mentorship.
