Title

Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Practice Locations: Hillcrest Hospital, Fairview Hospital, and CCCHR - Children's Rehabilitation Hospital

Biography

Shanna is a pediatric nurse practitioner, dual-certified, currently practicing as an inpatient provider in pediatric hospital medicine at Cleveland Clinic’s regional hospitals. She has been a nurse practitioner for over 21 years, of which she has been at Cleveland Clinic for 17 of those years. One of Shanna’s proudest accomplishments during her career was her time serving as the chair of the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise APRN Practice Council from 2015-2018. She also completed a fellowship for the Johnson & Johnson Nursing Leadership program at Duke University in 2016. Shanna entered the post-Master’s DNP program, nurse executive track at The Ohio State University in 2017 and graduated in 2020. Her doctoral final project was titled, Shortage of Nurse Practitioner Preceptors: A Quality Improvement Project Addressing the State of Crisis within One Healthcare System. In partnership with Jennifer Docherty, they created an APRN Preceptor Council at Cleveland Clinic, a preceptor registry, and a formalized process for APRN students doing clinical rotations at Cleveland Clinic. This innovative, pioneering program has changed how preceptors and students work together. Shanna was a part-time faculty at Case Western Reserve University, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing from 2019-2022. Her most recent journey in academia switched when she was hired as the first full-time Nursing faculty member to start a BSN nursing program at John Carroll University in 2023. In her short time at John Carroll University, she played an integral part in obtaining full accreditation through CCNE and gain approval from the Ohio Board of Nursing for John Carroll's new BSN program.
