Vinayak Hegde, MD

Vinayak Hegde, MD, is Director of Regional Advanced Imaging and Cardiac Imaging at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital and a general cardiologist in the Section of Regional Cardiovascular Medicine of The Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Physician Office Building and Akron General and Lodi hospitals.

Specialty Interests: General cardiology, coronary artery disease, hypertension, valvular disease, advanced cardiac imaging

Experience: Dr. Hegde has more than 15 years’ experience in caring for patients with heart and valve conditions and diseases. He annually evaluates more than 2,000 echocardiograms and electrocardiograms, 300 cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) studies, 200 cardiac computed tomography (CT) studies and 100 cardiac nuclear studies.

Dr. Hegde is board certified in cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiovascular CT and cardiovascular MR.

Education: Dr. Hegde earned his medical degree from Topiwala National Medical College, B. Y. L. Nair Charitable Hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, and a master’s degree in biological sciences from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio. He completed his residency in internal medicine at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh, and received his specialty training as a cardiovascular disease fellow at Allegheny General Hospital of The Allegheny Health Network Medical Education Consortium, Pittsburgh. 

Dr. Hegde joined the Akron General Hospital staff in 2010 on completion of his fellowship and was named to the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2024.

Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Hegde has participated in clinical research studies related to heart disease, treatment outcomes and cardiac imaging. He has coauthored research papers published in print and online peer-reviewed medical journals, and he has presented his research at regional and national cardiology conferences and symposia.
