Biography
Xiaoying Lou, MD, is a staff cardiac and aortic surgeon in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in the Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute (HVTI). She sees patients and performs surgery at Main Campus.
Specialty Interests: Aortic valve replacement; bicuspid aortic valve; surgery for aortic aneurysms and dissections, including minimally invasive and endovascular (stenting) interventions; hereditary thoracic aortic disease; connective tissue disorders; transcatheter valve interventions; re-operative cardiac surgery; coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
Experience and Outcomes: Cleveland Clinic performs more than 5,000 heart surgeries each year. All Cleveland Clinic cardiac surgeons complete between 300-400 cardiac cases per year. As one of the nation's highest-volume cardiac surgical centers, Cleveland Clinic treats highly complex and critically ill patients, performing procedures that only a handful of surgeons across the country can do. Education: Dr. Lou is a graduate of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago. She also holds a Master of Science in Clinical Research from Emory University, Atlanta, which she earned while she completed her thoracic surgery residency there. She came to Cleveland Clinic in 2022 for an advanced aortic surgery fellowship after her residency and was named to the Cleveland Clinic staff in 2023.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Lou has been involved in research since 2007, beginning with an American Heart Association (AHA) research scholarship and internship while she was still an undergraduate. She has coauthored more than three dozen research papers in peer-reviewed medical journals, including more than two dozen papers on which she is the lead author. She is a reviewer for Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine and an abstract reviewer for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Dr. Lou has made numerous research presentations at national medical meetings, including the annual meetings of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and AHA.

Sheesh, hit all of the above attributes with a Level 10! Icing on the cake was putting my wife and I at great ease regarding the procedures to come, boosted our confidence in her skills as a doctor, and of the operating team and services we'd encounter in the next week as I'd recover. Especially liked the heart artwork that laid out the areas to be addressed and how it would be accomplished.
