Biography
Yi-Wen (Becky) Liao, MBChB, FRACP, is a staff physician in the Section of Regional Cardiovascular Medicine of The Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. She sees patients at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital.

Experience: Dr. Liao is fellowship trained in the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms and specializes in electrophysiology and pacing. She has performed more than 400 cardiac arrhythmia ablation procedures, including atrial fibrillation ablations, ablation for supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome in combination and complex ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablations. She has implanted more than 300 cardiac implantable devices, including pacemakers, defibrillators, subcutaneous defibrillations and leadless pacemakers and has specialized expertise in WATCHMAN implantation for left atrial appendage occlusion.
Dr. Liao is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Education: Dr. Liao earned her medical degree from the University of Otago, Dunedin and Wellington, New Zealand. She completed her internal medicine residency at North Shore, Middlemore and Auckland City hospitals, all in New Zealand, followed by cardiology and echocardiology fellowships at Tauranga, Middlemore and Auckland City hospitals. She continued her training as a fellow in electrophysiology and pacing at Middlemore and Auckland City hospitals and completed it as a fellow in those subspecialties at Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Liao was named to the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2024 after finishing her fellowship here.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Liao has been a subinvestigator on several significant clinical trials related to outcomes in patients with heart failure, heart attack and cardiomyopathy. She has coauthored more than a dozen papers on these studies and other research, including eight papers on which she is lead author and has made numerous presentations at medical meetings in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the United States.

The doctor and her staff are excellent. Everyone was respectful, kind and considerate. The doctor's explanation fo the pros and cons of both pacemakers was informative, concise and comprehensive.

Dr Yi-WEN is AMAZING. Spent a very long time with us , explained EVERYTHING THOUROUGHLY, gave me education, options, advice, assurance and a solid plan with her continuing support and communication. My anxiety was alleviated and I feel so much more confident and in control. Totally worth an hour drive to be in the care of this wonderful cardio-elecrophysiologist!!!
